Venezuela produced 130,000 mt of crude steel in August, up 34% from the 97,000 mt produced in August 2014, World Steel Association estimates showed Tuesday.
August''s output was 2.3% higher than July''s 127,000 mt, Worldsteel said.
In the first eight months of the year, production totaled 987,000 mt, compared with 930,000 mt in the same period one year ago, an increase of 6%.
The country''s hot-briquetted iron output in August totaled 180,000 mt, a jump of 122% from the 81,000 mt produced in the year-ago month.
Month on month, HBI output increased 1% from July''s 178,000 mt.
Through August 31, Venezuela produced 1.105 million mt of HBI in 2015, up 31.5% from the 840,000 mt produced in the year-ago period.
Venezuela has HBI installed capacity of 6.9 million mt/year, but has seen a reduction in production in the past years, mainly due to a lack of pellets.
